Today’s Guest Blogger is Jocel of   FOODnTRAVELla whose sharing a wonderful recipe with my readers.

Whenever I plan to cook a meal or a dish, I’ll always make sure it is simple, easy to cook, not time consuming and mostly important satisfy everyone tummies.
Steam boat or hot pot is a traditional Chinese cuisine partake especially during Chinese New Year, cool weather or even gathering. I usually cook steamboat during the eve of Chinese New Year where all my family members gather for dinner. This also strengthens and fosters our relationship.
My typical type of steamboat is made of Chinese herbal soup/stock with arrays of fresh ingredients and seafood.
Since I don’t have the traditional steamboat pot, I substitute with a rice cooker.

INGREDIENTS
You can put your favorite seafood, meat and other ingredients including egg or noodles. As for me, my choice is:-
A. SEAFOOD
Fresh tiger prawns, ring squids, clams, cut abalone, slices of fish meat, variety of fish balls, crabs, sea asparagus and sea cucumber

B. ASSORTED MUSHROOMS
Shitake, Button and straw mushrooms

C. VEGETABLES
Lettuce, carrot, cabbage, parsley and young corn

D. FRIED GARLIC OIL – for garnishing (optional)
Stir fried chopped garlic with enough of oil till golden brown/fragrant enough

METHOD
A. SOUP/STOCK (guesstimate)
In a pot of filter water, put cleaned anchovies/chicken bones + slices of ginger + wolf berries (optional) + 2 slices of dong quay/Angelica sinensis (optional) + salt. Let it simmer/boil for about 30 -40 mins .
B. Filter and remove all the cook ingredients from the soup. Set aside

HOW TO ENJOY THIS SUMPTIUOUS POT OF STEAMBOAT

1. When the soup starts to boil, add in ingredients and close the cover for 10 minutes.
2. Scope into your bowl and garnish with fried garlic oil.
3. Dip with chili sauce for more ummph!

Recently, I was lucky enough to win the Smartshopper Grocery list Organizer from a fellow blogger that lists contests and does product reviews. I was totally shocked to win this item when I received the email from Nicole at SAHM Reviews. Being a skeptic I was pleasantly surprised when the UPS man showed up at my door. I opened the box to see my new found friend the Smart Shopper Grocery List Organizer. When I opened the box I looked at the manual for the organizer.

I was excited to add my first item to the list, but to my dismay I did not have the correct size batteries. Once I was able to buy some batteries. I started playing around with the organizer. All you have to do is speak into the organizer and it brings up a list of items. Then, you press select and wait to see the correct. It does at times take a couple of times for the correct item to come up on the list. One of my favorite parts about the Organizer is the ability to categorize the items for a specific part of the grocery store. Prior to going to the store you have the ability to print out the grocery list and it’s listed according to the area of the store. The grocery organizer has a magnet which allows you to hang it on the fridge or hang it on the wall. I look forward to using this item for years to come. I don’t have to worry about buying anything except paper. The printer uses thermal ink so I don’t have to buy ink. So it’s no more scratchy lists to take to the grocery store. Now I can fly through the grocery store instead of trying to read my own handwriting.

Well tonight’s recipe was my version of my  Grandfather’s  Hobo stew and it almost turned in to another disaster. I had to use minced onions because I ran out of onions. Well the minced onions had a mind of their own. The lid came flying off the bottle and well their went all my minced onion. AGHH! I thought to myself what shall I do, well it turned out alright thankfully. So what can I say Ms Recipe sure does keep making mistakes. I’m beginning to think that the kitchen fumes are getting to me. So I share with all my readers who are learning to cook even a seasoned cook can make recipe mistakes in her kitchen…. SO Happy COOKING to you all.
