For the families that are on the run all the time planning meals ahead can save you from the sudden impulse of being fast food.

Let’s say you’re having burritos on Monday and Spaghetti on Wednesday, you can pre-cook the ground beef on Monday for Wednesday’s spaghetti. I did that this week to save time in the kitchen. I’ve been working on a second cookbook so I’ve been doing a lot of pre-cooking. On Sunday

I made a soup with chicken, potatoes, noodles and vegetables. I made enough for Tuesday’s lunch. Writing down the meals for the week does save you a lot of time and money. I like to set my slow cooker up the night before so I can just put slow cooker on the next morning. Slow cooker meals are great for times when children’s extracurricular activities keep you out until late.

You can pre-cook several meals on the weekend for during the week. You could make a big enough roast for roast with potatoes and barbecue beef.

If you get tired of slow cooker recipes you can prepare casserole dishes several days ahead and keep them in the refrigerator or freezer until time to cook. If you put them in the freezer make sure you date them. If you don’t use them one week you can use them the next.

Looking for some menu/meal ideas check out Marvelous Menu.

If you have some menu ideas, even if you don’t have the recipes you can join me on Monday for Marvelous Menu Meme

Cooking for a family when you’re on a diet doesn’t mean the family has to go without. When you plan your meals buy foods that meet your diet needs and your family’s needs too.

When someone’s on a diet the other family members need to help support the person while they’re going through a life altering process. There are a lot of healthier foods that taste as good as the high calorie foods we all tend to grab at the grocery store. For the family members that do not need to lose any weight you could encourage them to eat an extra serving or have a snack between lunch and dinner. A dieter’s life is a lot better when everyone works with the person rather than against the person’s goal to lose weight.
