Kitchen Tips #1

February 13th, 2009

Here are some tips for all the novice and seasoned cooks in the kitchen. I’ve been asked for some tips so here comes a few with more to come.

Tip 1: Prior to using measuring cups or spoons  coat with cooking oil prior to using to prevent sticking. This is especially helpful with honey, syrups and other sticky ingredients.

Tip 2: To check if baking powder is still good place 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder into 1/4 cup water. If it bubbles the baking powder still good.

Tip 3: Place  towel or napkin under cutting board to prevent cutting board from moving.

Tip 4: Use a dinner fork to remove ingredients off the beaters to a hand or stand alone mixer. Just make sure you unplug it first.

Tip 5: Microwave a few teaspoons of baking soda in 2 cups of water in a microwave safe bowl for 5 minutes to loosen up stuck on food on the microwave walls. Then pour down the sink with a couple of cups vinegar to clean drains out at the same time. Sorry folks this won’t take the place of Joe the Plumber. :) Lots of Laughs

Hi Ms. Recipe! These are great tips. I didn’t know about the baking powder. And for the cutting board, it also helps to put rubber band on both sides to prevent it from sliding. Thanks for sharing. :D

By the way, I’m not so sure if you’re into tags but you might want to participate in spreading the love. You can find it here.

    Happy Valentine’s Day!
