Cheese Recipe Question Answered

A Reader named Martha H. asked a recipe question:

What is the difference between: grind, grate and chop in a recipe? If it calls for “grated” cheese can I use my little mini processor which “chops” and/or “grinds?”

Ms Recipe says:

Cheeses that are moist you can use a cheese grater such as the one in the picture. Chopping cheese is cutting it into small pieces. Grinding is something done to coffee beans or hard cheese. Grating is using a cheese grater such as the one in the picture. As for using a mini processor to grate cheese I would not recommend it with soft cheese because it will turn into a ball around the blade.  You could use your processor with hard cheese however. I hope I have helped you with your recipe question. Thank You for asking.
