A few weeks ago, when I was out of town I went to White Castle restaurant for the first time ever. I was pretty shocked when I saw the hamburgers. I couldn’t understand what the entire fuse was about these little hamburgers. I was there so I decided to try the hamburgers anyways. I bought a bag of the burgers because I knew a few burgers wouldn’t fill me up. I really didn’t know what to expect from these little hamburgers. I was impressed with how good the hamburgers tasted. The onions were so finely chopped with precision made only by a machine. I added a little salt and pepper to the hamburgers. It goes to show dynamite does really come it small packages.
So last weekend, I decided to purchase the hamburgers in the freezer department at my local grocery store. I was thrilled to find them at the store, but I was soon disappointed because they tasted better at the restaurant then from the freezer. It makes me wonder if they put something else in the ones at the restaurant. I know for sure when I go back out of town I will pick up a bag of the burgers for my trip home and a bag of the burgers for my freezer. This way I already have the burgers the way the restaurant prepares them. It will be interesting to see if they taste the same way as the ones from the store after freezing them.

I use to eat at white castle all the time and I miss them. They really do have good food at a great price. I wish we had one close to me now.
I’ve never eaten at White Castle, but I have seen the burgers in the grocery store. I guess I will try finding a White Castle.
Oh it’s one of the foods that I miss the most. I also was thrilled when I found them in the freezer section of my grocery store…but upon eating one it was no where close to a real White Castle. Since I never thought about freezing them when I lived in Ohio, I am interested to find out if the flavor does change when you freeze them from the restaurant. I miss Bob Evans too, found the sausage gravy in the freezer section of a store in Portland,Or and was thrilled, but once again, still didn’t taste the same.
We are so lucky…they just opened a White Castle the next town over, so I can go grab a sack whenever I am craving them…grew up on White Castles, heart them…but never tried the frozen ones.
Found you via Entrecard, nice to meet a fellow blogger and White Castle fan

i’ve tried the frozen White Castle too, but they’re not very good. it was ok, but nothing extra ordinary. i just saw it in one of the huge freezers of S&R Price Smart here in Manila (sort of like Costco there in the US). i haven’t tried the fresh ones from the White Castle restaurant yet.
What a great blog idea! I will be checking back often!
why don’t you ask me to join with you? hehehe LOL
Hi just dropping by. I’m one of your daily Entrecard dropper and also want to say thank you also for the drops.

The frozen white castle’s are gross in comparison to the real thing. But then again, isn’t that true of most replicas?
I am from Indiana and we have them all over the place and would you believe I have never been to one yet either, lol! I did hear the same thing about freezing them, they are much better fresh is what I was told. I just love your site, your on my top fave list of blogs to visit everyday. If your interested I would love to swap buttons.
how were they sis? i think burgers here are also taken from the fridge.
Try wrapping the frozen burgers in a damp paper towel before you put them in the oven. Not the same as the real thing, but it does make a difference.
Actually, if you wrap them in damp paper towels, then wrap them in foil and cook in a 350 oven for about half an hour, the frozens are Almost as good as the restaurant.
My hubby always talks about these burgers, but I remember them as very salty
The thing with White Castle hamburgers is that they taste awesome hot and fresh. But try one that has sat for anything over an hour – and not so much.
I have a WC about 1 minute from my house. I love going there. I don’t like the frozen kind as much either. I wouldn’t call them gross, but they don’t taste the same, that’s for sure.
When I moved away from home for several years, every time I came home to visit, the first place I had to go was White Castle. People either love them or hate them. There doesn’t seem to be much room for a gray area. Glad you loved them!!:)
There was a White Castle on the corner where I picked up my bus home each night. Pure torture: Hungry at the end of the day, and forced to stand for 10-20 minutes each day smelling grilled onions and hamburgers!
White Castle hamburgers from the grocery store are horrid.
I grew up eating White Castle and then moved out west where they don’t have them. About 20 years later I was back east and ate them again. Tasted exactly the same as I remembered.
Where else are you going to get a little square hamburger with holes in it packed nice and tight in a castle box?
I love hamburgers and i would love to try these little burgers since i hear many good opinions about them but i live in san diego, ca.
i never heard of them here. does anyone know if they have them here? or where can i find them? email me or drop a message by my blog. thanks..
Michael,
You can go to http://www.whitecastle.com for information on white castle burgers. The site says they don’t have a restaurant in California, but they have them at the stores in the frozen department.

I grew up with these in Chicago and miss them because we don’t have any in Chattanooga. That is because Chattanooga is the home of Krystals, which is a rival chain that also makes tiny little hamburgers. I prefer White Castle burgers to these but I guess it is just what you grew up with that you prefer.
The store bought White Castle’s are not as good if prepared in your microwave. As others have said, to get the best White Castle experience steam them in your oven. I don’t have a White Castle OR a Krystal anywhere near me since I moved to Florida and I am going through some severe withdraws!
