My Experience with Anchor Hocking

September 19th, 2008

I purchased a set of glass bowls that came with a free measuring cup. The set was by Anchor Hocking. I really needed a measuring cup so I thought the set was a great deal or so I thought. The next day, I poured some warm gravy into the measuring cup. That night we were have beef, vegetables and a starch. Don’t ask me what veggie or starch we had. We sat down for supper enjoying a nice meal, so we thought. All of a sudden we heard a loud explosion. Next thing we knew had glass all in our food. The measuring cup had literally exploded right on our supper plates. The dog had got hit in the head by the glass. Luckly she was okay. This was not an experience I would want to repeat. I did call the company and they did give me compensation with a nice set of glasses, but I will never put anything warm in an anchor hocking glassware again. The woman from the company told me it had never happened before, which was not true. I did an internet search and there was instances of it happening before.

Thanks for sharing this. It is scary! Good thing no one in your family was hurt. I hurriedly checked my liquid measuring cups to make sure it’s not made by the same company, mine is by Pyrex.

I am so surprised to hear this. I have a couple of Anchor Hocking wares, myself. Maybe, it is a lemon?

And that was all thy had to give you to compensate you for all the possible danger you and your family had to experience? Heck! You should have asked for more. Kidding:-)

Anyway, maybe I should check mine too.

OMG, am glad that noone got hurt, poor doggie :( she must have gotten a bad shock out of that. I’d have to watch out for that brand over at our side of the world. But I agree with Lotus Flower you should have asked for more ;)

    Oh thanks for sharing..
I’ve never came across any glass exploding incidents except in my schooldays.
I’ve always used glass baking dishes for my cakes.. stick them in the oven to bake and all.. and they were fine! Now I’m scared.
Most of my glass bakeware is Pyrex. I recall those Pyrex test tubes during my schooldays. Guess I’ll stick to this brand then!

Wow how scary, I hate it when things break but happening like this it must have been horrid.
